Crappy news first:
Comic/Graphic Novel artist Derek Kirk Kim made a very eloquent blog post about his personal feelings regarding the Avatar cast: [link]
It makes me remember to a point how I honestly felt when I did see the main casting. I'm sorry, couldn't help it:
I kind of felt like I was punched in the face.
But I wanted to reserve judgement and give in to some hope that perhaps it was ...for the best?(?) lol
Plus a lot of people who wanted to have the same hope for the movie had some good points and as actors the cast may have what it takes to authentically play these characters and that perhaps the whole race thing could be put aside for the sake of acting ability and such.
Yet the more I looked around, when I saw some other fellow fans making some arguments such as (more or less) "It's not an Asian world, it's just Asian-influenced." or "These actors are more marketable, it's a sad fact but an asian/minority actor would be harder to find and wouldn't be as marketable" and my personal favorites:
"reality is that the movies appeal to the masses if they are based on the masses. the masses are white"
"It wouldn't make sense to make everything unrealistically diverse"
"Hollywood is not going to change ...so lets just put up with it."
...
Then it felt like I was delivered a painful German Suplex multiple times. And I think this hurt more.
HAHA WOW. I...JUST...WOW.
OH GOD.
but anyway:
Better and more Awesome news:
new news about the Avatar comics club. With new EPIC stories featuring KUZON.
Yes, that's right.
KUZON. THE KUZON.
and more about the old Masters.
And beautiful work done by the Avatar writers and staff and artists.
It most certainly is like a Vicks vapor rub upon the congested suffocation caused by all the Airbender casting lulziness.
Peace out ya'll.
Devious Comments
HAWT.
That's the kind of sexyfreshment I NEED after all this movie casting fiasco.

I seriously felt like my head was going to explode from the "Avatar movie should be made not for Asians/minorities" comic. Christ.

Casting: WTF PARAMOUNT I FEEL ANGER
New comics: Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
As far as the 'Hollywood is never gonna change... so let's just put up with it' crap.
We don't have to put up with it; that's the thing. Things WON'T change by just sitting around and complaining... you get off you're butt and do something!!! Hence the letter writing campaign and getting in contact with various groups.
Oh, and for those of you who are the mindset that it doesn't matter that they 'whitewash' Asian-based series... take a look at what other beloved series are getting this treatment...' [link]
And if you're still not convinced... take a look at this comment left by a parent who took their 12 year old son to the Aang casting call and tell them that they shouldn't be offended by the white lead cast. [link]

As to your other point...it's sad to admit, but you're right. The cast they picked for the movie is more marketable than a more (le GASP) multi-racial cast. And let's face it, entertainment these days is all about the all mighty dollar. Let's just hope they can bring even HALF as much depth to the characters on the silver screen as they had in the show.

The peeps in charge of the casting..not so much.
Yet though it's supposedly moar marketable that these guys be cast, it is can also hurt the fandom in the long run for what these casting decisions lead to. I know perhaps it wasn't intended, but this shows poor discretion on their part.
I hope so too.
