Kanatiiosh Beaded Hoops by Isaia Kanatiiosh Beaded Hoops by Isaia
I attempted to learn Kanatiiosh (Chyhoitl (sp?) Native American) beaded hooping,
some time before Christmas. I made these two. Took pictures of em before I gave them both away. Just thought I'd like to keep images in case I want to make more.

The Sun hoop (right) was made as a Christmas gift for an older co-worker of mine, who trained me at work, and very firmly but fairly taught me to how to get by with great confidence and discipline..which I don't think I would have survived there without. XD

The Moon hoop (left) was made for another older co-worker of mine whose encouragement and kind words left me energized and smiling each time work became tiresome. Her attitude and optimism, kept me going even on the most difficult days.

Each one has qualities that the other doesn't, yet both hoops were enjoyable to make. Though they're both kinda crooked and I ran out of some colored beads ovO;;;

These are gorgeous. I think it's great that some people still sit and work on their Christmas gifts to friends and family. <3

Dude! Where'd you learn how? I'd love to learn. I have a great respect and interest in native americans. Prolly that I'm paritally cherokee on my mom's side but that's beside the point  I love learning about different cultures.

When I looked at the blue one, it reminds me of ice. The red (or is it orange?) one is like fire...
But I like both of them! :w00t:

Welll, sadly, I don't know very much about native american cultures. :(

But I really like the blue one. Cooler colors, to me, are so much more awesome. XP

The sun hoop is a bit crooked, but the moon hoop looks very well done. They both look very intricate and you should be very proud of them. ^.^

They're done so beautifully, I could tell which one represented what before I looked at your description! It's reminiscent of a 4th grade project where I had to do the same thing, 'cept mine looked pretty bad XD.

The Moon is my favorite by far. I'm part Native American, but confess I've never heard of such an art- it looks very time consuming and you did a fantastic job from what I can see here. :)

I love traditional crafts. When you take the time to learn their art and craft something the way that people did ages past, it's like you are...for a brief moment...touching their world. Passing your hands in the same rhythm.

Hooray! I am glad. And beautiful work.

Wow, those looks sort of complicated... Very nice, especially for your first attempts! You could also try using smaller beads like seed beads to get a different effect (my mom does beading so I know way more about beads than I want to :C )

THank you! :33

I think I have used seed beads for this, but are there any smaller kinds? Ahh, I wish I could collect more of these to make better lookin ones and experiment with designs.

So cool that your mom does this, beading rocks X33.

Oops, I couldn't tell what sized beads you were using from the scale of the pic :B Those are the smallest as far as I know, my mom just spilled one of her boxes tonight D: Its like someone spilled shiny blue sand everywhere...

They're both gorgeous. Sadly I can't do anything that pretty with beads. Especially small beeds. I usually end up making more of a mess than anything. Great job!

Those are very lovely. They remind me of dream catchers, but those are American Indian, too, aren't they? I can't pick a favorite for reasons you stated -- they *do* have different qualities which make them uniquely beautiful. =)
